‘Eclipse’ Cannot Beat ‘New Moon’
The latest sequel of Twilight Saga, Eclipse, cannot beat the record achieved by the New Moon. However, Eclipse is still entrenched in the top box office ladder.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse only managed to sell tickets worth USD162 million in the United States and Canada. In fact, the New Moon movie tickets sold up to USD262 million, or Rp2, 7 trillion over five days in the first weekend in theaters overseas. Figures are quoted from the distributor Summit Entertainment, as reported by Reuters on Sunday (07/04/2010).
A day earlier, the figure is forecast ticket sales going to make USD173 million, or Rp1, 5 trillion over the five-day inaugural telecast. It is not surprising because New Moon was able to get USD165 million, at the same time in November last year.
Summit said last Saturday predictions were just a simple calculation and it does not take into account when Eclipse came out less interesting than New Moon.
While in the second place, The Last Airbender gets $ 40 million. Toy Story was in third place with $ 30 million, followed by the Grown Ups and the Knight & Day.
